CONTEST RULES

1. Must be a resident of the Big Island of Hawaii
2. Eligible entries are from students grades 3-12.
3. Entries must be postmarked by April 23, 2010.
4. Essays must explain, "My mom is the best..." in 500 words or less.
5. The winning entry will receive gift certificates from the Kona Commons merchants equaling $500.00.
6. Winners will be announced by May 4, 2010.

Congratulations to Shannon, a 9th grader from Konawaena school. He won the Kona Commons Mother's Day essay contest and took home a $500 shopping spree for his mom!

My mom is the best because she always makes me laugh and always pop lock and drop it when she hears her song B-day. Everyday to her is a new day and she don't always complain or judge my goals. She always helps me by improving what I am striving for. Every morning she wakes up everybody to go to work or school and she takes care of us. She always brings up her grandma whenever we do Hawaiian music, culture and Hawaiian crafts. I love the stories that my mom always shares with me about her grandma. When I go to church or school everyone just loves my moms personality and how she makes a boring day into a fun or even a special day. My mom never thinks of her age, like I'm old to do hard work or dance. She does it like it's no ones business. Also she always cooks the bomb deserts like her Jello cream cheese is the winner. Ohh, and her stuffing for Thanksgiving that couldn't be beat. On some days when I am down and there was no one who even cared about me or talked to me, my mom is there. I should respect my mom always because she always does my chores when I am worn out. When I come home after practice the house is clean and I realized that my mom did it. My mom and other moms suffer a lot and they should be respected everyday. But I love my mom and I respect her hard work. That's why my mom is the BOMB!
